Mistakes were made

We were practicing turns and every lap I'd just get a little more and more to the left, hitting this little bump and getting an even more little amount of air. Eventually I decided to huck it and, well, this happened.

This was a lot more painful than it looked... You can tell it hurt because I didn't bother shutting the bike off. Knocked the wind out of me and made me sound like a broken vacuum cleaner. Other than a sore back I'm fine.

I immediately regret this decision

I picked up a Garmin Edge bike computer with heart monitor thingie, in the hopes that I could use their swanky Garmin Connect software to monitor my riding and progress.

I opened the package and it puked about a thousand little doo-dads, connectors, wires and god-knows-what-else onto my counter. Included is a little "quick start guide" and a DVD which doesn't help me since I'm a snooty MacBook user and my desktop PC is all the way in the other room. Do these people actually expect me to get off my ass and learn something? Can't they just do all the work for me?

Bling bling, y'all

Got my custom stickers from Factory Effex last night. They're pretty nice but I wish there was a way to view the stickers before placing an order. I would have made the DNA Energy logos on the shrouds bigger and maybe moved some other logos around. I won't know how nice they really look until my motor comes back and I can put the bike together. I'm going to be the shiniest person to ever come in last place.

Hooray for spare bikes

A friend came over last night and helped adjust the valves in my broken-for-months 2006 CRF250. Since the motor from my 2011 is still at Yoshimura without an ETA as to when it will be returned, and the fact that it's in the 70s with 2 weeks till race day, this is perfect timing.

I like run-on sentences.

It's good that this bike is available for me to beat the bag out of until my 2011 is done. At this rate I may end up racing the thing once or twice.

These boots were made for revving

Just got my Jett J1's delivered to me, and they are interesting to say the least. It's a pretty radical design... Essentially there's a soft leather boot on the inside, and there's a hard plastic shell that you buckle over the leather. It's sort of like a Cadbury mini-egg but not as tasty.

I'll post a review once I break in the boots, which judging by how stiff they are, could take some time. If you can't wait, MXA has some reviews that claim that this is pretty much the best boot ever made in the history of mankind. Mine is the non-bootied J1 Lite.

Some random musings from the ten minutes I wore them over my jeans:
  • The outer shell makes putting the boots on a bit of an event. I'm sure I'll get used to it pretty quickly but it's a bit of a paradigm shift.
  • They fit pretty well although they seem a little tight on the sides of my feet. If you have wide feet, good luck.
  • I ordered the optional sticker kit which came pre-installed, and after taking a good look at all the little tiny stickers involved, I'm glad I did. I'm a little concerned that they're going to come off pretty quickly but we shall see.
  • It looks like everything is replaceable, from pieces of the sole to the plastic outer shell. This could be a pretty awesome option.
Disclaimer: I'm sponsored by Jett and received a discount off my purchase.

The BRD RedShift is the best electric MXer this week

Engadget has an article with some "photos" of the BRD Redshift electric dirtbike. I used quotes because it's a pretty safe bet that these are mockups and not actual pictars. The bike costs 15 grand and - surprise - Claims that it "performs just as well as any race-ready four-stroke 250-cc gas-powered machine...". No mention if that claim refers to a CRF250R or XR250.

Some of the comments on the article are pretty awesome. I guess some people just have to sound like an authority on everything they read. Don't they know that I already know everything?
